Name Jessica ThompsonAbout My name is Jessica Thompson and since the summer of 2004 I have been experimenting and creating art in the comfort and quiet of my home for the sake of my sanity. I have learned from every project and piece, both those pieces accomplished and those pieces gone awry. My weapons of choice have wide range. I am a versatile and opportunistic artist. I use oil, water colour, spray and acrylic paints. I do prefer acrylic paint or acrylic mixed with oil or mixed with water colour. I also work with mixed media and I enjoy creating a collage effect. I will use anything from photos to trinkets to feathers found discarded. I use a variety of surfaces, including paper and canvas. I also like to transform everyday objects such as kettles, tables and window frames I have found abandoned as trash. I am a resourceful and adaptive artist, and I like to display the potential in all things. The intent, emotion and message of each piece I set out to create determine what materials I will ultimately end up using to complete it. I have found myself painting a series of pieces I like to think of as warped landscapes. While I admire the art of realism, I prefer displaying landscapes that bend the rules of colour, dimension and scale. Art, to me, is the beauty and the repulsion of the world on display, as that particular artist sees it in their mind’s eye. This truth is my goal in painting these warped landscapes. For as long as I can remember I have used the power of word to express myself. My works of poetry, fiction and reflection directly influence my visual art. Many of my pieces are tied together by personal conclusions, by life lessons learned and by character formed. If one were able to look beneath the outer layers of my pieces you would find my works of the written word painted as the first and perhaps most vital step. For me without one form of art there would not be the other, they are interdependent, connected and therefore they are all the more sincere. The contentment and self-assurance I feel is provided solely by my life creating art. The act of creating, the comfort of it, and the passion for it is my true fuel and I have come to realize that is the life I wish to lead. I have made significant personal progress in the last few years of my life and I feel I am ready to share my ideas and passions in the form of my art. I have come to believe what we are passionate for, what we crave and conquer and create with our hands and minds is the fuel for those around us. We do not do these things for ourselves, to believe so is folly. We practice our passions and share them in turn to remind and reassure our loved ones of the life still vibrant within us, of the hope for a deeper understanding and a stronger connection. We express ourselves to invest faith and place trust in our counterparts. That is the foundation of any human relationship. ANNOUNCEMENT! I will be having my first art exhibit/ book launch called "Sense of Pulse" on Friday, November 27th/ 2009 at the Edge Gallery, 611 Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Please stop by to visit! |
